Reproductive-age women have varying contraceptive needs. For many women, long-term reversible contraception, defined as IUDs and implants for the purpose of this article, represents an excellent choice. Several options are currently available: the copper T intrauterine device, the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system, and the single-rod progestin-only implant. Health care providers need reliable information to counsel their patients effectively and work with them to make the most appropriate contraceptive selection.
